CORRECT WAYS IN WHICH TO PREPARE
PARTICLES FOR CARP ANGLING
It is of prime importance that baits and particles
are prepared correctly before using them. Horror stories abound of lakes
becoming choked from particles that have not been prepared in the right
way and of course Carp dying for the same reasons.
Use the following guidelines to ensure your
particles are ready to use
PREPARING PARTICLE BAITS
If you are going to use particles as bait, it is
essential
that you prepare them correctly.
Unprepared or incorrectly prepared particle baits can injure and
kill fish. This is why many waters have banned them. Particles
are cheap and effective, and recommended.
Guidelines for preparing your bait:
Buckwheat
Pre-Soak beans for 14 hours – then bring to boil and
simmer
until they split
Hemp
Pre-Soak beans for 14 hours – then bring to boil and simmer
until they split
Adzuki Beans
Blackeye Beans Chick Peas Haricot Beans
Lima Beans
Maple Peas
Peanuts
Pinto Beans
Red Kidney Beans
Tares
Tiger Nuts
Wheat
Pre-Soak the above beans for 14 hours – then bring to boil
and simmer for 30 minutes
Maize
Pre-Soak beans for 24 hours – then bring to boil and
simmer for 30 minutes
THE PREPARATION OF HEMP SEED FOR BAIT OR TO
USE AS AN EFFECTIVE FISH ATTRACTOR
Firstly pre-soak the hemp seed for about two hours. Put
approximately two pints of water into a saucepan of boiling
water. Add about one pint of hemp and bring the water to the
boil, then leave to simmer for about 15 minutes or until the
small shells of the seed start to open and release the white
inner flesh. Drain the seeds and allow to them to cool. It’s
ready.
A couple of interesting facts …
1. The Hemp seed is the seed of the Cannabis plant. The plant is
illegal in the UK. The seeds are “sterilised” to ensure that, if
grown, the plants will not contain THC (the active ingredient in
cannabis to get you high!)
2. The first Levis blue jeans were made out of 100 per cent
hemp.
DAILY BREAD
TO MAKE a couple of thick slices of ordinary bread TACKY: Give it just
12-15 seconds in the microwave then damp it by spreading a little water
in between on a surface, close together, and you are away........
CONNING THE CARP ON THE CHEAP
As all keen anglers know, carp eventually get
used to a bait that is always used and can become wary of it. If
using white bread try dying it with food dye (red is excellent) and add
a flavoured oil to disguise it. It works a treat and is cheaper
than boilie.
SIMPLE DOUGH BALLS
RECIPE
Take one whole piece of bread and
remove the crust. after dipping the rest in bacon grease roll it into a
tight ball until semi hard. Great for carp!
TIGER NUTS
Carp love tiger nuts. Try soaking them in Golden Syrup for at least
three days before use.

CARP LIKE SPAM!
Luncheon meat is successful for Carp. You will find the cheaper the
luncheon meat is, the better it stays on the hook as it is usually more
solid (and fatty). Cut the luncheon meat into cubes approximately 1cm
square, then leave it exposed to the air and sun for a short while, this
will put a firm skin around it making it less likely to come off the
hook. Best fished on a hair rig and boillie stop.
Today there is an enormous range of baits
for Carp on the market. There are various ways in which bread can be
used (with or without honey). But also lobworms, boiled potatoes, red
worms, maggots, slugs, snails, freshwater mussels, small fish, wasp
grubs, boiled beans and nuts, peas, banana, macaroni, shrimps, prawns,
cake, caterpillars, congealed blood and of course boilies.
It is well known that fish have local preferences, and their preferences
can change during the season. Between 1970 and 1972 there were 55 carp
over 20lbs caught at Redmire Pool in the UK. 17 of those fish were
caught using sultanas as bait.
You may find for instance, that whole new potato will produce lots of
action. This may only last for the first few weeks of the season, then
they tend to prefer eat boilies or trout pellet paste. Later in the
season during the colder months nuts may be productive.
IN THE WIND
On a windy day try fishing where the wind blows into the edge as this
is where the natural food is sent by the movement of the water.
